My work in lands primarily deals with maintaining lands files, transferring parcels of land from one member to another, registration of agreements for cottage leases, survey requests, maintaining emergency 911 number lists and any other land enquiries. As required, I liaise with staff at Aboriginal Affairs.
In the housing area, I assist members with applying for housing renovations, housing subsidy applications and water and sanitation assistance. When needed, I liaise with Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation that provide building inspections/recommendations and Health Canada which provide inspections on septic systems and wells.
I am also the membership registrar. This work includes reviewing the applications, reviewing supporting documents, determining eligibility and making recommendations to council. Ancestry inquiries can also be directed to me.
- Maintain abstract (historical record) of lot ownership.
- Administer transfer of land titles and maintain land registry.
- As Membership registrar, maintain the database of members, process membership applications.
- Administer Housing Renovation program, Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program and Emergency Repairs.
- Administer the rental agreements and rent collection of Wahta’s rental units.
- Administer cemetery plot allocation and maintain records.
- Point of Contact for obtaining 911 number designations for all of Wahta

Land Transfers
The Lands Dept provides information and processes applications for land transfers between individual members with registration to INAC. We also provide lease agreements between land certificate holders and leasees. The land Dept. also administers cemetery plot allocations and maintains plot records.

- Housing Subsidy Application and Loan Process
- House Building on the Territory
- Housing Renovation Assistance Program
- Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program
- Emergency Repair program
- Sanitation and Water Supply Assistance Program
- Residential rental units owned and operated by the Wahta Mohawks
- Administer the rental agreements and rent collection of Wahta’s rental units
- Point of Contact for obtaining 911 number designations for all of Wahta.

Membership Registrar
The Membership registrar maintains the database of members, processes membership applications and registers new members. Membership is determined by the Wahta Mohawks Citizenship Code and status is determined by Aboriginal Affairs. Please contact Karen Sahanatien for a membership application.
