Public Works | Building Maintenance

Public Works Department 

  • Maintain grounds/areas grass cutting, landscaping
  • Maintain Wahta owned/managed roads, driveways and parking lots.
  • Manage snow clearing and ground maintenance services at Wahta buildings and senior residences.
  • Operate and maintain Wahta waste transfer station an landfill.
  • Manage the maintenance of water treatment systems and septic systems at Community Buildings and rental units.
  • Manage public works related capital projects such as water well drilling and installation of water treatment systems.
  • Manage the operation of Wahta quarry, including the sale of quarry products and control of inventory.
  • Undertake assigned work orders in line with the WO scope, assigned priority and time frame.
  • Weekly curbside collection of bagged garbage and recycled waste from residences occupied by seniors and buildings.
  • Manage the maintenance of Wahta fleet of vehicles and public works equipment.
  • Manage the licensing of fleet vehicles/equipment and any related certification.
  • Represent Public Works on capital project teams.

Evan Holmes – Public Works

Evan has been working with us since 2014, mainly in public works, serving as Supervisor, Public Works, since 2020.
As supervisor, Evan is responsible for providing public works services, which ranges from grounds maintenance, summer & winter road maintenance, garbage and recycling collection, operation of the landfill/transfer station, and maintenance of Wahta fleet of vehicles and public work’s equipment.

Anthony Strength – Public Works

Anthony joined us in 2021 and works with Evan Holmes in the public works department. Anthony assists with public works services, grounds maintenance, summer & winter road maintenance, garbage and recycling collection, operation of the landfill/transfer station, and maintenance of Wahta fleet of vehicles and public work’s equipment.

Glenn Dimmer – Janitor

Glenn joined us recently in the important role of janitor, a newly created position in the organization.
Glenn has worked in building management and maintenance for 20 years, he is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of Wahta Mohawks’ community buildings, ensuring a safe, sanitary, and pleasant environment for staff and visitors. This role involves performing a variety of cleaning tasks, minor maintenance duties, and ensuring that all assigned areas meet established standards of hygiene and tidiness.

Facilities and Building Maintenance 

  • Manage the maintenance and repair of Wahta Mohawk owned facilities, buildings and rental units, including related civil, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and other equipment.
  • Project manage capital projects related to the facilities, buildings and rental units.
  • Sampling and testing of drinking water at rental units and buildings.
  • Provide commercial cleaning, janitorial services for the Admin building
  • Oversee pest control services.
  • Monitor and maintain building Security and Alarm systems.
  • Monitor and maintain Fire Detection and Prevention systems.
  • Undertake assigned work orders in line with the WO scope, assigned priority and time frame.
  • On a rotation basis with Public Works, man the waste and recycling depot.
  • Assist the Public Works department in snow clearing/shoveling.

Harry Byrne – Maintenance Supervisor

Harry has been working with us for the past 13 ½ years, with the past six years as supervisor of building and facilities maintenance, including all the rental units. In addition, Harry acts as project manager for various maintenance related capital projects.

Terry Decaire – Maintenance

Terry has been working with us for the past 15 years in the maintenance department. A key component of Terry’s responsibilities is maintenance of the water treatment systems in our buildings and rental units to ensure the supply of safe, clean drinking water. Part of this role involves the sampling and testing of the water at each system at regular intervals.
